ASTM B550 Zirconium Wire

ASTM B550 Zirconium Wire Description

Introduction

ASTM B550 zirconium wire is a high-performance metallic wire engineered for rigorous industrial and chemical service conditions. The standard governs zirconium and zirconium alloy wires, covering commercially pure grades (R60702, R60703) and alloyed variants including R60704 (Zr-Sn) and R60705 (Zr-2.5Nb, commonly referred to as Zr705).

Zirconium wire features exceptional corrosion resistance, moderate tensile strength, excellent ductility, and non-magnetic properties. It maintains stable performance in harsh chemical media and high-temperature water environments, widely applied in chemical processing, nuclear energy, electronics, medical devices, and precision manufacturing.

Compared with titanium and stainless steel, zirconium exhibits superior chemical inertness to mineral acids, concentrated alkalis, and hot chloride solutions. Its exceptional chemical stability ensures extended service life under demanding service conditions, while conventional metals suffer premature degradation.
