Gr5 Titanium Wire

Product Overview

Gr5 titanium wire is an α+β titanium alloy with the nominal composition Ti-6Al-4V. It accounts for over 50% of global titanium consumption-more than any other titanium grade.

The wire delivers high strength, low density, and excellent corrosion resistance across a service temperature range of -196 °C to 400 °C. It is roughly 43% lighter than most stainless steels, with a strength-to-weight ratio that outperforms steel and aluminum alloys.

Gr5 titanium wire serves aerospace fasteners, medical implants, chemical-process components, high-performance springs, and precision welding applications. It is non-magnetic and biocompatible, making it a go-to material for critical manufacturing.

Features & Advantages

  • High strength-to-weight ratio: 57% the density of steel with tensile strength up to 1300 MPa. Less weight, same strength.
  • Superior corrosion resistance: Stable in seawater, salt spray, acidic, and chloride-rich environments. Outlasts stainless steel.
  • Exellent weld compatibility: Composition matches parent titanium alloys. Strong welds, low cracking risk.
  • Broad temperature range: Performs reliably from -196 °C to 400 °C. No brittle failure at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Non-magnetic and biocompatible: Safe for medical implants, MRI environments, and precision electronics.
  • Tight dimensional control: Tolerances down to ±0.01 mm, good straightness. Feeds smoothly in automated production lines.

Performance Solutions

1. Problem: Steel corrodes rapidly in marine environments, driving up maintenance costs.

Solution: Gr5 titanium wire is virtually immune to seawater corrosion. Zero maintenance, lower lifecycle cost.

2. Problem: Stainless steel fasteners add unnecessary weight to aircraft.

Solution: Gr5 wire fasteners cut component weight by ~43%, reducing fuel consumption and emissions directly.

3. Problem: Filler wire mismatch with titanium base metal causes weld cracking.

Solution: Gr5 filler wire shares the same chemistry as the parent metal. Consistent weld strength, low crack susceptibility.

4. Problem: Nickel-containing alloys can trigger allergic reactions in patients.

Solution: Gr5 titanium wire is nickel-free and biocompatible. Proven in orthopedic and dental implants worldwide.
