Gr5 ELI Titanium Wire
Product Introduction
Gr5 ELI titanium wire (ASTM Gr5 ELI / UNS R56401) is the extra-low-interstitial version of Ti-6Al-4V, an α+β titanium alloy. Tight control of interstitial elements — oxygen, iron, and carbon — delivers fracture toughness and cryogenic ductility superior to standard Gr5, while retaining its full strength. The material resists brittle failure at cryogenic temperatures, offers excellent fatigue performance, and meets ASTM F136 and ISO 5832-3 biocompatibility requirements. Available from φ0.1 mm to φ6.5 mm, customizable up to φ10.0 mm, as straight wire or coil.

Features and Advantages
- High fracture toughness: Low interstitial content yields KIC values superior to standard Gr5, suited for fracture-critical components.
- Cryogenic reliability: Retains ductility below -196°C with no brittle failure.
- High strength-to-weight: Density 4.43 g/cm³, UTS ≥860 MPa-less weight, no strength penalty.
- Broad corrosion resistance: Stable in seawater, salt spray, acidic, and chloride-rich environments.
- Certified biocompatibility: Nickel-free, non-toxic, compliant with ASTM F136 and ISO 5832-3.
- Tight dimensional control: Tolerances down to ±0.01 mm, straightness ≤2/1000 — production-line ready.
Performance Solutions
-
1. Problem: Standard Gr5 lacks toughness at cryogenic temperatures, raising brittle-failure risk.
Solution: Gr5 ELI tightly controls interstitial elements and does not embrittle below -196°C. Suited for LOX piping and cryogenic aerospace structures.
2. Problem: Steel corrodes rapidly in marine environments, driving up maintenance costs.
Solution: Gr5 ELI wire is virtually immune to seawater corrosion. Zero scheduled maintenance, lower lifecycle cost.
3. Problem: Stainless steel fasteners add unnecessary weight to aircraft.
Solution: Gr5 ELI wire fasteners cut component weight by ~43%, directly reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
4. Problem: Nickel-containing alloys can trigger allergic reactions in patients.
Solution: Gr5 ELI wire is nickel-free and biocompatible. Proven in orthopedic and dental implants worldwide.
Applications
-
1. Bone screws, plates, spinal cages, hip stems, dental abutments. Nickel-free, biocompatible per ASTM F136, MRI-compatible.
2. Airframe fasteners, landing gear assemblies, engine mounts, LOX line fittings. High fracture toughness meets damage-tolerant design requirements for airworthiness certification.
3. Corrosion-resistant springs, aerospace valve springs, racing valve springs, precision electronic contacts. Long fatigue life under sustained cyclic loading.
4. TIG/MIG welding of Ti-6Al-4V ELI parent material. Full chemistry match, dense welds, joint strength equal to base metal.
5. Heat exchanger tube bundles, reactor internals, pump shafts, subsea fasteners. Handles seawater, HCl, and H₂SO₄ in high-reliability corrosive service.
