1) Introduction

Gr5 titanium foil is a high-performance ultra-thin titanium strip/foil based on Ti‑6Al‑4V (an α+β two-phase titanium alloy), manufactured through multi-pass precision cold rolling and vacuum annealing.Compared with commercially pure titanium (Gr1/Gr2/Gr4), Gr5 not only has significant higher strength, but also maintains excellent stability under moderate to high temperatures, making it a typical representative of lightweight high-strength structural materials.

Gr5 titanium foil overcomes the application bottleneck of “limited strength” associated with pure titanium.

While retaining excellent corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties, it significantly enhances load-bearing capacity and structural reliability.

It is particularly suitable for high-demand applications in aerospace, electronics, new energy, and high-end equipment manufacturing, where stringent requirements are placed on strength, weight, and stability.

2) The properties and application of titanium foil material are as follows:

  • Gr1 Titanium Foil: Due to its extremlyhigh ductility, it is suitable for highly complex formed parts and deep drawing applications.
  • Gr2 Titanium Foil: Balanced strength and ductility, ideal for general industrial applications
  • Gr4 Titanium Foil: Highest strength among commercially pure titanium grades, used for structural components with certain load-bearing requirements
  • Gr5 Titanium Foil: A certain of titanium alloy with strength exceeding pure titanium, combining lightweight design and high reliability, dedicated to high-end load-bearing structures and extreme working environments

During mass production of wide-size Grade 5 titanium alloy foil with specifications of 0.03–0.8 mm thick × 350–670 mm wide, exsiting some problems such as poor rolling stability, difficult contral in forming plates, and insufficient batch consistency are common in the industry due to the high strength and low ductility of the material.
